I Waited for DVD - KILLERS

Spencer's a hit man working on location in Nice, France. Jen is on vacation with her family on the Mediterranean. What we know about the characters from the set up - Spencer's exciting, Jen's boring. They fall in love. Time goes by. The "agency" need Spencer back dead or alive. Everyone is after him. There is after all a bounty for 20 million on his head. The couple goes on the run. Jen learns who Spencer really is, and maybe even a little bit about her father when it comes out that he once worked for "the agency." Spencer begs Jen to stay with him. Jen loosens up. The End.

Pretty much what you'd expect right? No one's breaking new ground here. Other than a tab bit of chemistry, and tiny moments of comedy, it's overall pretty forgettable. Overall, it's pretty formulaic, boring, and had trouble finding it's movie. I love this cast, and was truly disappointed with the results.

I'm glad I waited to rent.

WEEDS

Last season, I found myself on the edge of my seat watching this one. Little Shane Botwin sledgehammering the one woman driving a wedge between Nancy and Esteban in the head - killing her in (literally) a pool of blood. Who expected that twist of fate? It kept me waiting with baited breath for the show to return. Checking out every internet site trying to get any tiny little bone they may throw me before the new season. Sadly, I report back that the brilliant WEEDS staff has finally run out of things to write. It feels a little like when Nancy lit the house on fire and she and the kids went on the run to California. It's the exact same thing. Question is, why is anyone going with her now. Silas is grown. Andy should have stay with Alanis Morissette. And Shane doesn't care what happens to him - he's a sociopath. I waiting for something to happen. Fingers crossed it happens before I give up.

Bring back the fun tensions set up with Nancy and Esteban. Send Silas off to college and send Shane to Juvey. They are dragging down the show. I want to keep watching. I heart Nancy Botwin!

Pilot Watch - OUTSOURCED

I am still scratching my head on this one... curious to know why anyone thinks that middle America wants to see a 1/2 hour comedy about an Indian call center. Isn't that the one thing everyone complains about. No one at their call centers speaking English. The other thing I'm wondering is - where is the comedy.

This NBC comedy about an American guy who travels to India to open a call center. The script lacks funny with visuals like a pair of mounted tits jiggling to "Shack Rattle and Roll," and a toilet bowl coffee mug. It's trying too hard to get laughs. The casting is all wrong. And the one thing I didn't want to say - is it feels a little racist.

The fact that this got a series pick up, shows us why NBC is number 4.

Pilot Watch - CHASE

Fugitive recovery. Cat and mouse between the good guys and the bad guys. Sound familiar? Well that's because it is derivative of everything else the Bruckheimer camp is putting out.

If you take Jerry Bruckheimer's name off - you have something that never makes it to the page - much less to series. With thin characters, and incredibly tired premise this one is a real snoozer.

I wish I could love this one, but sadly, there just isn't much to love.

Pilot Watch - NIKITA (CW)

This fresh new take on a tired concept brings interesting characters to the small screen with a tall order - to become the greatest assassins of this generation. With a mutual goal, one hit man working against the agency. The other enforcer - a rookie inside agency. These hotties are working together to get revenge on for destroying lives by taking down division from the inside out.

What it does best - the action, the casting, underlying darkness and the set up.

What it lacks - a focus on exactly what the series is going to be.

What needs to change - the marketing campaign.

BOOK REPORT - Jack Blank

Matt Mykusch has crafted wonderful characters within a truly imaginative, yet greatly visual world in his debut novel JACK BLANK AND THE IMAGINE NATION.

Beginning with Jack in an orphanage where no one respects him, when he's bullied the adults don't believe him. He's ridiculed every way possible by the class bully, and then punished. All is lost for poor Jack. That is until he's rescued and brought to the Imagine Nation, where all of the world's created characters actually live. But not all is great in his new home - he must train and take down the bad guy (of course). This is a fun ride, with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat with each turn of the page.
I recommend this read for all ages! You won't regret it.

REMEMBER ME - ugh

This movie was suppose to be something important. But it didn't land on the screen. Pierce's accent was mildly recognizable, Emilie barely showed up, and Pattinson what were you thinking?? This is a business about branding - and you're not branding yourself as a musician (what you want), a actor (what you need) or anything above. I don't know who messed up what was once a great screenplay but it fell flat. I had hoped for much more.

BOOK - Balance is a Crock, Sleep is for the Weak

For all working women - read this before you have kids. It'll help you choose if you want kids and when you choose to bite the big one... it'll help you figure out how to make it work. We really can do it all!

Hurt Locker vs. Avatar

I am so proud for Kathryn and for all of women everywhere, but a part of me feels like AVATAR was shafted. AVATAR changed film making. Jim showed us that he could do it again, and while HURT LOCKER was amazing, it wasn't AVATAR.

Sandra Bullock is a movie star

She delivers an amazing performance - the role of a life time perhaps, THE BLIND SIDE'S Sandy showed us what a movie star is really made of. Good for her. Keep 'em coming. You're America's sweetheart again and southern women everywhere are proud!

THE GHOST WRITER

The movie based on the book written by Robert Harris delivers way more than you'd expect. Suspenseful, fun, and a twist that you're not expecting. Go see this movie!

BACHLORETTE - Ali Fedotowsky

Ugh. Honestly - the tabloids loved Ali and hated Vienna, but I never got it. Vienna seems like the best fit for Jake, and the most loyal to him... so what's the big deal that she worked at Hooter's or Mako? I mean seriously, we all have skeletons in our closest. And while I may not have shown my cleavage for tips, I have certainly shown off the twins in public sometimes just for free drinks or on really fun nights a spare ciggie here or there.

The choice for BACHLORETTE is a piss poor one. Ali left the show just because she was getting too close and of course if Jake picked her she would not be able to have her own season. And of course, miraculously Facebook let her out of her job for an entire season but forced her to come back on this one. I think she is a liar, a manipulator, and was willing to go the extra distance to secure herself a title season with her name on it. While I am extremely happy that Jake did not take her back - I just wish that the producers would give Tenley the show. At least she's sweet and cute. Ali is the whore, who probably also slept with producers.

VIENNA FOR JAKE!!

SMART WOMEN MARRY MONEY: HOW WOMEN HAVE BEEN DUPED INTO THE ROMANTIC DREAM - AND HOW THEY'RE PAYING FOR IT written by Elizabeth Ford

SMART GIRLS MARRY MONEY is a disillusioned account which reminds women that we are still the weaker gender. We make less money, and still need men in order to live a financially stable life. This book and others like it are 100% of the reason that women have not completely evolved into equals.

Women should keep their interests, rather than dropping everything in order to become everything that their man wants. Money doesn't buy anything except complications. As a society, we should figure out a way to make romantic love work, rather than consider our monetary interests... after all, our existance is about our lives, not our possessions.

The writing is mildy entertaining, and manages to be slightly witty, however, due to the overall concept I would absolutely not recommend this book.

DAMAGES - Season 3 (so far)

There is not one character on television that makes my love to hate her more than Patty Hewes, but increasingly I have grown to fear Ellen more than ever. Season 1 was by far one of the best season of television. Amazing character development, and a well thought out structure allowing for one small secret to be revealed in each episode leading up to the reveal of the major secret. The writers and network moved away from that structure for the first few episodes in the second season then once they returned to it, I once again found myself excited about each week again.

This 3rd season, however, is a little different. The Bernie Madoff theme is tired, and boring to me. It feels like we all just lived this story and now we have to just relive it again. I realize that the writers and network wanted to go for the audience who wants to see Bernie go down - but unfortunately it simply does not work. We didn't care if Ted Danson went down - we didn't know if he was good or bad in all honesty. The same with William Hurt. Bernie - we want to see him go down (especially those who lost money in the market crash period). Another huge problem with this season is that there is no cat and mouse between Patty and Ellen (the overall character struggle that works amazingly) - the show feels flat and just plain boring. Last year, we started out in the same sad place that we are this season - so fingers crossed that things pick up. I mean - Tom dies. And that in itself will keep me coming back for few more episodes.

LOST - Final Season

Ok - admittedly - I wanted to fall off the LOST bandwagon several years ago, though I have choosen to suffer through more seasons just to know how it all ends. And well, sadly, this year it's gotten to be too many questions and just not enough answers.

The Parallel universes were confusing but now I'm really confused - what happened to the parallels? Are we back to flashbacks? What is the structure this season?

With deluded character arcs, confusing plot lines, and unfocused episodes - I am thankful that it's coming to an end, because I just don't care about what happens to any of the characters any longer.

I'm going to keep watching - hoping that it'll pick up and we'll soon find some answers.

More to come.

HEX HALL written by Rachel Hawkins

HEX HALL is the tale of Sophie Mercer, a half breed (half human/half dark witch) and her troubling High School experiences keep piling up. 19 States in 16 years, has kept Sophie on her toes, but finally in once settling into a boarding school for witches, faeries, warlocks, vampires, werewolves, etc, she learns the truth about herself. With three Mean Girls watching her every step of the way, Sophie realizes that it's not just these girls who have it out for her - especially since her father is the Head of the Council (the board in which protects the magical species against their biggest enemies). Throughout this brilliantly fun YA novel, Sophie learns that gaining confidence really is a game changer and that her powers are much stronger than she initially believed.

While I felt HEX HALL consisted of a slightly derivative plot - I found it to be a truly delightful read. To start off, Rachel Hawkins has an amazing fresh voice and I loved reading every page of this book. And I am certain to watch out for every one of books to come. The only story complaints that I have are that two of the "Mean Girls" Anna and Chaston were a tab bit underdeveloped and there are three attacks before anything really is done about them. Otherwise, Rachel's debut novel is full of surprises, suspense and you really will be waiting for the next book in the series as soon as you're finished.

Check it out, on sale March 2, 2010.

TRULY, MADLY written by Heather Webber

Lucy Valentine, is flawed but that is what makes you love her. The Valentine family has been given a special power to read auras and match makes couples perfectly. The family is wildly famous for this, however, they have been cursed with the inability to keep their own romantic relationships together. And even worse, Lucy lost her power at 14 because she was electrocuted - and now can only find lost objects. So you can imagine how tough it was for Lucy to take over the family business when her mom and dad escape to the islands to hide from the press. When Lucy's first client, Michael comes in looking for love - all that she can find for him is his ex-finances engagement ring. On a dead corpse. Buried in a field right behind Michael's house. Lucy then goes on a hunt to find some answers.

Heather Webber has a unique voice and has constructed refreshingly real characters. When Lucy becomes torn between the Michael (a client) and Sean (a private investigator), the story gets really juicy... I just hope that Heather will explore this love triangle in DEEPLY, DESPERATELY (the next book in the series). Other characters, like Grandmother Dovie, and Lucy's best friend who works as the receptionist at the office are also very quirky and fun too.

Overall, this book is fully of juicy romance, a little suspense, and quick witted fun dialog. A fast read. Definitely, check it out, especially if you're looking for a light hearted world that will suck you in and take you to a fantasy.
