DAMAGES - Season 3 (so far)

There is not one character on television that makes my love to hate her more than Patty Hewes, but increasingly I have grown to fear Ellen more than ever. Season 1 was by far one of the best season of television. Amazing character development, and a well thought out structure allowing for one small secret to be revealed in each episode leading up to the reveal of the major secret. The writers and network moved away from that structure for the first few episodes in the second season then once they returned to it, I once again found myself excited about each week again.

This 3rd season, however, is a little different. The Bernie Madoff theme is tired, and boring to me. It feels like we all just lived this story and now we have to just relive it again. I realize that the writers and network wanted to go for the audience who wants to see Bernie go down - but unfortunately it simply does not work. We didn't care if Ted Danson went down - we didn't know if he was good or bad in all honesty. The same with William Hurt. Bernie - we want to see him go down (especially those who lost money in the market crash period). Another huge problem with this season is that there is no cat and mouse between Patty and Ellen (the overall character struggle that works amazingly) - the show feels flat and just plain boring. Last year, we started out in the same sad place that we are this season - so fingers crossed that things pick up. I mean - Tom dies. And that in itself will keep me coming back for few more episodes.
